Over 3 thousand in the “colorful Middle Ages”

300 small armed men who re-enacted the Battle of Legnano

Legnano – “The Middle Ages have never been so colourful” one might say looking at the images of the carousel of the Palio di Legnano which, thanks to the careful work of philological reconstruction carried out by the Permanent Commission of Palio Customs, has rediscovered the authentic liveliness of the colors used for fabrics. But they were also colorful and lively 300 small ones armed men who gave life to the re-enactment of the battle of Legnano organized by Palio Foundation in collaboration with the association Saint George and the Dragon within the scope of medieval festival which took place on Sunday 26 May in conjunction with the Palio. (read the Palio numbers here)

Three re-enactments of the battle during the day were staged at 10am, 3pm and 5pm, but in addition to the children 3000 people crowded the Falcone Borsellino park during the day, enthusiastically welcoming the initiative which allows you to experience the medieval atmosphere and rediscover ancient professions such as carders and scribes. It should always be underlined that cultural and sporting initiatives of this type, in addition to entertaining the participants, represent a protection of active citizenship which animates city spaces allowing us to reclaim and inhabit areas which, on different occasions, have written local news pages.

“The idea of the medieval festival – he said Alberto Romanò member of the Board of Directors of the Palio Foundation – was born in March on the proposal of the Cavaliere del Carroccio Andrea Monaci. Legnano had already hosted themed days in the past, but never in conjunction with the Palio di Legnano” and given the success achieved it is quite obvious that the experiment will be repeated next year too.

Mega screen to improve

A more complex analysis, however, concerns the other initiative promoted at the Falcone Borsellino park, namely the installation of the mega screen which broadcast live all the celebrations and the match underway at the Mari stadium. We certainly liked the idea, but we need to rethink the placement or use of other giant screens already installed even outside the city limits.

The fence that delimited the space available to the public represented an important safety feature but, considering the high temperatures of the day, it somewhat discouraged the stopping of people who preferred to find refreshment in the shade of the park’s trees. So the idea is good, but its application needs to be perfected.
