MARCHE – Marche’s incomes are growing but inflation sweeps away any enthusiasm. The incomes declared in 2023 by 1.1 million taxpayers from the Marche region amount to 24.9 billion euros with an average value of 22,413 euros. Compared to the previous year, the overall average income per taxpayer increased by 1,067 euros, corresponding to an increase of 5%.

“Between 2021 and 2022 there was a significant increase in incomes, confirming the post-Covid recovery. Even in the Marche, however, this result was effectively neutralized by an inflation which in 2022 stood at 7.6% (NIC – annual average, ISTAT), with the consequence of a loss of purchasing power for taxpayers and families”, explains Marco Amichetti, Ires Cgil Marche. Territorial photography, he continues, “gives us great territorial differences, accentuated by phenomena of depopulation, aging and marginalisation. All symptoms that are particularly visible in the internal areas of the region, places that are increasingly fragile and lacking in social and economic infrastructure.” The most declared types of income, both in terms of frequency and amount, are those relating to employment (51.4% of the total income and 55.9% of the total taxpayers) and pensions (31.1% of the income overall and 37.6% of total taxpayers). This is the picture that emerged from the data released by the MEF, relating to the tax returns of natural persons for the tax year 2022, processed by the IRES CGIL Marche.

The investigation

THE incomes declared by Marche residents are lower than the national average (23,633 euros) and the average of the Central regions (24,403 euros). In the ranking of the Italian regions, the Marche ranks 11th after Tuscany. Lombardy, with 27,876 euros, is the region with the highest income, while the one with the lowest figure is Calabria, with 17,105 euros. Of the Marche provinces, Ancona records the highest average income (the only one above the national level), with 23,658 euros, followed by Pesaro Urbino with 22,516 euros, Macerata with 22,078 euros, Ascoli Piceno with 21,303 euros. In Fermo the lowest value was recorded with 20,634 euros. The 37.9% of Marche taxpayers declare an income of less than 15,000 euros while those who declare incomes above 120,000 euros represent 0.8%.

In the range of up to 26,000 euros of declared income, 72.2% of Marche taxpayers fall, which corresponds to 44% of the overall declared income of the region. There are strong disparities in the distribution of overall wealth: 0.8% (9,137 units) of the richest taxpayers (with incomes > 120 thousand euros) declare a higher amount of income compared to 24.2% (269,161 units) of the poorest taxpayers (with average incomes from employment amounts to 20,614 euros, and also in this case it stands below the national average (22,284 euros) and the Center (22,541 euros). Compared to the previous year, the growth at a regional level was 726 euros (+3.0). 7%).

The highest figure is recorded in the province of Ancona (21,617 euros), the lowest in Fermo (18,837 euros). The average income from self-employment amounts to 61,508 eurostypology that makes records a significant increase compared to the previous year (+4,121 euros, +7.2%). The entitlements declared by the entrepreneurs (under the simplified accounting system) are 25,632 euros per year, while the income from participation amounts to 18,991 euros. The average pension income is 18,527 euros and observes an increase of 4.1% compared to the previous year. Among the Municipalities, the one with the highest overall average income is Numana, with 27,489 euros, while the one with the lowest value is Monte Grimano Terme (15,023 euros) . As regards the incomes of the internal areas, namely the lower Pesaro and Ancona Apennines, the Alto Macerata area and Ascoli Piceno, they record values ​​significantly lower than those of the reference provinces and, in particular, than the regional average ones, although compared to these they observe a growth greater.
