Commercial companies reject the municipal administration

An outright rejection of the actions of the current municipal administration, which practically comes from three out of four Civitavecchia commercial companies. It is the result of a survey carried out by Confcommercio Roma in collaboration with the specialized Format Research Institute. The objective of the survey was to detect, describe and analyze some aspects regarding the performance of Civitavecchia businesses, the supply and demand for credit and the expectations of businesses regarding politics in view of the upcoming local elections.

The research was enriched by a desk survey on the economic fabric of the companies located in the city area. In this regard, 130 interviews were carried out in the period between 10 and 19 April. Well, 65.9% of local commercial businesses declared themselves not satisfied with the current municipal administration, compared to 34.1% who were satisfied. The survey was not limited to just testing an approval rating, but went further. Traders interviewed by Format Research also asked what should be done to improve the liveability of Civitavecchia. Among the requests, the resurfacing of the road surface, the intensification of control and surveillance services, the restoration of sidewalks and the cleaning and arrangement of drains are the priority interventions that should be implemented by the next municipal administration. The Ficoncella spa area, the Taurine spa and the seafront, however, are the sites in which the new municipal council should invest most in order to make the city more attractive. On the topic of cultural offerings, Civitavecchia’s commercial businesses believe that the construction and related promotion of a calendar of events shared with business associations would improve attractiveness and encourage cruise passengers to visit the city. Then, in terms of active policies for businesses and employment, we are asked to encourage new economic activities that favor female and youth employment and to establish collaborations with technical institutes aimed at selecting work personnel dedicated to commercial activities. Thinking about strengthening the city’s roads, commercial companies indicate the increase and reorganization of public and school means of transport and the expansion of the cycle network as priorities. A final note on the municipal tariffs paid by businesses. 82% of commercial companies declared themselves against the current levels and services of the waste tariff, compared to only 18% who were in favour.
