Caltanissetta, XXIII Kalat trophy: Domenico Conti and Angela La Monica triumph – il Fatto Nisseno

I am Domenico Conti (Universitas Palermo) e Angela La Monica (Mega Hobby Sport) the winners of the XXIII edition of the Kalat Trophy, which took place yesterday in Caltanissetta. The event, organized by Track Club Master of Caltanissettawas valid as the sixth round of the Sicilian road racing Grand Prix and as the fourth round of the provincial GP of Caltanissetta and Enna.

Three laps for the race dedicated to seniors/masters for the classic 10 kilometers of a very technical route which has characterized the historic Nissena event for years now, with departure and arrival from Viale della Regione, near the Palmintelli stadium. Hot day, more than spring and water supplies, crucial for the safety of the athletes, well managed by the students of the Ruggero Settimo classical high school of Caltanissetta coordinated by the prof. Fabio Fiorenza.

A small group, made up of Conti, Schembari and Sanfilippo, takes care of lighting the race and, meter after meter, they measure up the other athletes, imposing their fast and constant pace. The challenge is resolved in favor of the youngest, an athlete from Universitas Palermo, who finishes first with a time of 35’18. The position of honor sees Vincenzo Schembari (Atletica Padua Ragusa) prevail by just two seconds (35’25) over Diego Sanfilippo (Pro Sport Castrofilippo) who stops the clock at 35’27.

In the women’s category, Angela La Monica repeats the success achieved in 2022, at the end of a dominated race. The progression for the athlete registered for Mega Hobby Sport was irresistible and she won with arms raised with a time of 42’55. Excellent second place for Sebastiana Bono (Running Messina) who secures second place at the end by stopping the time at 43’38, a handful of seconds before the arrival of Federica Vannucchi (Sciacca Running) excellent third in 43’50.

Having archived the competition dedicated to the “older ones”, the program continued with the youth competitions, an important stage for the younger athletes, protagonists of an exciting and above all healthy moment of sport. Many very young people involved, each with their own categories, each with their own distances, all with the same enthusiasm. The youth competitions were also sponsored by the Gaia social cooperative.

The event which was part of the FIDAL national calendar, “Bronze” level, was certified by World Athletics (formerly IAAF). Next appointment with the regional road racing GP, Sunday 9 June in Lascari for the sixth City of Lascari – Mare Trophy.
