Next Friday 31 May starting from 5.00 pm at the De Nobili Municipal Library – Villa Margherita – Catanzaro the public debate on the theme: Ilaria Salis libera – Freedom for Ilaria will be held.
The lawyer will discuss it. Eugenio Losco, defender of Ilaria, prof. Charlie Barnao, full professor of sociology, the lawyer Carlo Petitto. Ilaria Salis’ father, Roberto, will speak remotely. The works will be coordinated and moderated by Dr. Maria Rita Galati, journalist.
For many months Potere al Popolo has been a member of the legal team that is following Ilaria Salis’ trial in Hungary. Our delegation witnessed the dramatic prison conditions of Ilaria brought to court by masked subjects, with irons on her wrists, with a leash and shackles. Meanwhile – outside the Court and undisturbed – the Hungarian Nazis threatened and filmed the Italian solidarity delegation with their cameras. We are aware of what the Orban regime that inspires Giorgia Meloni is.
And we fear the pronouncements of the Hungarian justice system which for the accusation brought against Ilaria provides for up to 24, twenty-four, years in prison (in Italy the same crimes for the same facts can even be prosecuted upon complaint and provide for minimum sanctions).
Many people have gradually mobilized, discovering the hypocrisy of this Italian government which boasts of its patriotism, but then the “brothers” and above all the sisters of Italy leaves them to rot in foreign prisons just because they are anti-fascists, just to please the governments friends who clearly violate human rights; many people have given life to a new anti-fascism far from the hackneyed clichés of institutional anti-fascism. The mobilization has indeed paid off. Only partially, for now.
Ilaria was released from prison and was placed under house arrest with a bracelet. Obviously that’s not enough for us. What is taking place against Ilaria Salis is a highly questionable trial in which the defensive guarantees are strongly compromised and the regime’s political pressure is invasive and pervasive.
We are certain that Ilaria will not be intimidated and we will always be at her side in the battle. Because his battle is our battle and that of all anti-fascists! Power to the People – Catanzaro
