Interprovincial games from “Magna Graecia”, competitions kick off in Crotone

CROTONE Today and tomorrow the city of Crotone will host the Interprovincial Games of Magna Grecia, a sporting event that will see the participation of schools from all over southern Italy, including Matera, Caserta, Salerno, Lecce, Foggia, Taranto and Syracuse. This event, promoted and organized by the Provincial Administration of Crotone, is part of the national program “Youth, Self-determination, Movement, Empowerment” (Game), financed with 125 thousand euros from the Youth Policies 2022 fund.
The “Fare Squadra” project aims to encourage the practice of sports and the adoption of healthy lifestyles, thanks to the collaboration with numerous partners including the FIDAL Calabria Regional Committee, the US Acli Calabria Regional Committee, various professional institutes for hotel services and catering in Cutro and Cirò Marina, the “Filolao” scientific high school in Crotone with a sports focus, and the “Punta Alice” sports club in Cirò Marina. Furthermore, the initiative is also supported by the Municipality of Crotone, the Municipality of Cirò Marina, the Municipality of Isola di Capo Rizzuto, the Beethoven Acam association and the CPS Provincial Student Council.

The event

The Interprovincial Games of Magna Grecia will cover four main areas of intervention:

  1. Sport and Promotion of Healthy Lifestyles: The students of the hotel institutes will conduct awareness campaigns on the adoption of healthy lifestyles, including the creation of a short film on the Mediterranean diet.
  2. Sport and Disability: Schools, FIDAL and US ACLI will collaborate to increase sports participation of people with disabilities, promoting training and inclusion paths.
  3. Sport and Community: The institutes and multi-sport centers will organize sporting events in disadvantaged neighborhoods to promote sport throughout the province.
  4. Interprovincial Games of Ancient Magna Graecia: hotel institutes, the sports high school, FIDAL and US ACLI will promote the games of Western Greece, involving schools and sports clubs.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for this evening at 7pm with greetings from the authorities, including the president of the Province of Crotone Sergio Ferrari, lighting of the torch of the games and oath of the athletes.
Tomorrow, however, the sports competitions begin, with running competitions (200 m, 400 m, 1000 m), shot put and competitions for disabled children (100 m run and vortex throw) scheduled. In the afternoon, beach volleyball and beach soccer tournaments, sailing boat excursions or orienteering activities in the historic center are scheduled. In the evening the final party with artistic performances curated by local students and the party with DJ.
The Interprovincial Games of Magna Grecia represent a unique opportunity to promote sport, inclusion and a healthy lifestyle among young people in southern Italy. This event not only celebrates the sporting tradition of ancient Magna Graecia, but also strengthens the sense of community and collaboration between different provinces.
