A pipeline breaks in Corso Milano in Padua: water in the street and inconvenience

A water main pipe broke this morning, Sunday 26 May, in Corso Milano, flooding part of the road leading to the city centre.

Residents said they noticed the breakage shortly after 9 am, when the firefighters arrived. The intervention to close the leak began immediately, in synergy with the AcegasAps technicians present on site.

This led to the closure of the water supply for numbers 111 to 115, causing inconvenience especially for the residents of the condominium at number 113. No damage to the ground floor businesses, while the water is filtered by the grates of the wolf bowls which leads to the basement cellar rooms of the condominium. The damage reported by residents was minimal.

An old water pipe broke. Although Corso Milano had been affected by interventions on the underground services preparatory to the construction of the Sir2 tram line, the breakage is not connected to these interventions.

To make it known the Mobility sector of the Municipality of Padua, which highlighted that the pipe in question had not been subjected to interventions.

After an initial flooding of the road surface, causing traffic disruption, around 11am the situation improved thanks to the cleaning of water and mud by the Candeo company workers.

To close the leak it was necessary to interrupt the water supply, at least until this afternoon, in addition to the dismantling of part of the road surface in conjunction with the rupture of the pipeline.

The works, from an initial estimate of the damage, should continue for the whole day, with the replacement of the old pipeline. «During the tram works, the old pipes are being replaced.

Work would also have been carried out in Corso Milano to renew this potentially obsolete pipeline, which however collapsed before the interventions. However, this will be a precious opportunity to renew the underground services”, commented Mobility Councilor Andrea Ragona.
