Calabrian student commemorates the victims of the Florence massacre

Project “#ourstudentstell about the martyrs of legality”. Calabrian high school student commemorates the victims of the massacre in Florence, in Via dei Georgofili.

On the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the Georgofili massacre, which occurred on the night between 26 and 27 May, the National Coordination of Human Rights Teachers intends to remember the victims through the work of the student Bianca Papaleo of class III section. G of the Filolao Scientific High School of Crotone.

We are in Florence, on the night between 26 and 27 May 1993, in Via dei Georgofili, under the historic Torre de’ Pulci. It could have been a night like any other, but instead five people died, deaths due to an explosion of a car stuffed with 250 grams of an explosive mixture: Caterina Nencioni, less than two months old, Nadia Nencioni, 9 years old, Angela Fiume, caretaker of the Accademia dei Georgofili, Fabrizio Nencioni and Dario Capolicchio lost their lives and 48 were injured.

It didn’t take long to realize that the tragedy was mafia-related, especially after the Capaci and Via d’Amelio massacres. We already knew what the Mafia was capable of doing, with no discounts for anyone, not caring about the people who, through no fault of their own, become its victims.although very young: a little girl non had less than two months old. There should be no reason to carry out such an act, but instead it was enough that the rules governing the law of 41 bis became more rigorous, so as to prevent the inmates from any communication with the outside world.

The Mafia needed to make itself heard and chose the best way sensationaland: destructionAnd of cultural goods. Cas we can even think that the ugly appreciates the beautiful? Nohe doesn’t appreciate it but search anyway to take advantage of it. We cannot define it as just pressure towards the State. The Mafia does not simply take liberties, but tries to subjugate the body that is supposed to protect us. A law is not good? The State is put in crisis to change it, and in the meantime dozens of people die at a time.

Nadia Nencioni, the 9 year old girl, he loved writing poems and three days before the massacre he had written one about the sunset, which would become the title of the operation to capture the boss Matteo Messina Denaro, who was part of the instigators. Who knows how many more poems Nadia would have written and how happy her parents Angela and Fabrizio would have been and who knows what life little Caterina would have lived and who knows Dario who was there precisely to follow her passion, architecture! However, we cannot know this because the Mafia, in order to make its case heard, decided to eliminate him therepresence of five other lives on May 26th and hundreds before and after the Via dei Geog massacreophili.”

The fight against and prevention of crimes and any form of illegality must necessarily play a moment of enormous importance in school life; from nursery school to high school there should be space, in the planning of individual classes, for the inclusion of educational paths aimed at strengthening of concepts relating to legality and compliance with legal rules. Without any doubt, the first weapon to oppose the criminal system and the mafias is not to forget tragedies like that of the Georgofili, thus continuing to reject any form of compromise and raising awareness among the young generations to implement actions that are increasingly consistent with the principles of civil responsibility and active citizenship.
