There are 23 green flags awarded by Legambiente to the Alpine arc, recording a +15.7% compared to 2023. The Piedmont, is confirmed for the sixth consecutive year as the undisputed king of good practices with 5 green flags, followed by Valle D’Aosta, Lombardy, Veneto, with 4 flags respectively, Friuli Venezia Giulia, 3 flags, and then by Trentino, Alto Adige, and Liguria, all with one flag. Agriculture, conscious tourism and man-nature coexistence are the three strands of this year’s 23 green flags awarded today by the environmental association on the occasion of the VIII national green flag summit.
For the agriculture sector, the winners include, for example, the Piedmontese project Reaction which focuses on the maintenance of chestnut groves through sustainable management of residual biomass from the chestnut supply chain; to Valchiavenna (So) where six organizations are active in the area – the Valchiavenna Mountain Community, the Asfo di Piuro, the Prata Forestry Consortium, the Friends of Val Codera Association, the Starleggia Potatoes Association and Friends of the Starleggia Potatoes , the Asfo of Fraciscio Valchiavenna – are committed to the recovery of mountain agriculture and the valorisation of local agronomic varieties.
For the conscious tourism trend, we range from literary trekking, in Veneto with the Alta Via dell’Orso, to the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri (Ge) and in the nearby Val Borbera (Al) to the Cammino dei Ribelli. In Piedmont there is recovery and the transformation of the Barracks in the municipality of Moncenisio (in the province of Turin) and the “Le terre al Confine” Ecomuseum. For the coexistence of humans and large predators, the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park has created the project “Living with the wolf is possible” and the Pasturs project. The Piedmont Region which with the “Compensatory payment for Natura 2000 forest areas” contributes to conserving natural ecosystems.
