Florence, 17 June 2024 – Friday June 21st the thirtieth edition of the Music Festival, initiative born in 1982 in France; since then, every year, cities around the world celebrate the summer solstice with free concerts of all kinds. There Accademy’s Gallery of Florence renews the precious collaboration with the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory, organizing, for this occasion, from 2.30pm to 5.30pm, at the left transept of the Tribune of Davida musical afternoon with some of the very young students of the Florentine musical institute: the duo formed by Anna Bodnar, accordion, and Andrea Sernesi, cello; followed by Giuseppe De Nitto, accordion. The concert will be free but the museum entrance ticket is required.

The Music Festival in Italy is promoted by the MiC – Ministry of Culture, the theme chosen for this edition is The first orchestra is us. The concert will be free but an entrance ticket to the Museum is required. The audience, this afternoon, will be accompanied by a very varied musical program which will range from pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach, from the 18th century, to a collection of English folk melodies, written in 1926 by the composer Ralph Vaughan Williams, to Le Grand Tango by Astor Piazzolla. Compositions by contemporary authors such as Ivano Battiston, Franck Angelis and Sergej Voytenko will also be performed. The one between the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence and the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory has been an important collaboration that has been active for years now, not only with regards to the performances and concerts that frequently cheer up the museum’s visitors and make its rooms resonate with music. The Department of Musical Instruments of the Gallery, inaugurated in 2001 and recently renovated, hosts the Conservatory’s collection: on display are around fifty instruments from the private collections of the Grand Dukes of Tuscany, the Medici and the Lorraine, collected between the second half of the 17th century and the first half of the 19th century. The collection includes unique pieces in the world including the Stradivari tenor viola, a cello by Niccolò Amati from 1650, an oval spinet and an ebony harpsichord, both built by Bartolomeo Cristofori. Please note that on Friday 21 June 2024, the Accademia Gallery in Florence will be open from 8.15am to 6.50pm (last entry 6.20pm).
