Venezia beat Palermo again (2-1) and flies to the final

Venezia flies to the final Serie B playoffs and dreams of promotion to Serie A. After winning the first leg 1-0 away, the lagoon players beat Palermo 2-1 also in the return match played tonight at the Penzo stadium in Laguna. Goals by Tessmann in the 4th minute and Candela in the 43rd minute. In the final, an own goal by Svoboda gave the consolation goal to the Sicilian rosanero.

Now in the final Venezia coached by Paolo Vanoli, who finished third in the championship, awaits the winner of Cremonese-Catanzaro which will be played tomorrow evening at the Zini stadium. The first leg in Calabria ended 2-2. Parma and Como were already promoted to Serie A during the regular season.

Venice-Palermo 2-1: the match

Vanoli’s team starts off strong despite the one-goal advantage they gained in the first leg and after 4 minutes they puncture Pigliacelli with Tessmann’s right-footed shot from outside. A goal that immediately extinguished the Rosanero’s hopes, which only had one jolt, that of Segre who headed the ball and was stopped by Joronen’s sensational intervention. On the opposite side Pigliacelli exalted himself on Busio but the Sicilian defense conceded too much and in the end also conceded the second goal, that of Candela who at the end of the first half already put an end to the challenge. In the second half Mignani introduced fresh forces such as Di Francesco, Aurelio and subsequently Mancuso who took the place of the injured Brunori. Pohjanpalo does not shine as he comes out to the applause of his people. Not even the substitutions can straighten out a compromised game. The Rosanero found the satisfaction of a goal with Chaka Traoré but only in the 86th minute when there was little time available. Palermo ends its championship and says goodbye to the Serie A dream, barely cherished after the victory against Sampdoria. Venezia will play in the playoff final to try to return to Serie A and will also have the factor of a double result in the double challenge, given the third place achieved in the regular season. They will play the first of the two away matches and the return leg at home.
