Trieste leaves Forlì no chance and flies to the play-off final

BASKETBALL TRIESTE – UNIEURO BASKETBALL FORLÌ

85 – 68

(19-11; 23-23; 22-19; 21-15)

Game 3 of the Playoff Semifinals of the Serie A2 red group was staged at the PalaTrieste between the hosts Pallacanestro Trieste and Pallacanestro Forlì, fresh from two consecutive defeats within friendly walls and forced to win to extend the series. The Julian team, however, returning to the Valmaura arena, was already counting on closing the score today and thus reaching the final even without Reyes, who was rested as a precaution. In the end, it was Trieste that came out on top as the first to reach the final, awaiting Cantù or Udine, thanks to Brooks scoring 18 points and Candussi scoring 15.

Trieste got off to a great start and immediately jumped to 4-0 thanks to Brooks and Candussi. Forlì tries to react with Zampini, but Brooks again keeps the guests at a distance with two free throws made (4-2). Forlì tries again with Johnson but Candussi always keeps his team ahead (+4). However, the guest’s reaction came at the end of the quarter, so Cinciarini’s triple gave Forlì the first lead of the match. Brooks, however, decides to strike out on his own and with seven points scored puts Trieste back in the lead (19-11). In the second quarter Bossi immediately increases the gap to +10. Cinciarini and Zampini try again to reduce the gap, but Ruzzier puts things back on track for Trieste (+9) with the triple. The guests, however, are fierce, so much so that the Radonjic-Zampini pair scares the hosts, returning to -5. Candussi isn’t in it, but Zampini and Valentini still keep Forlì alive and they remain attached to the game. An unleashed Brooks then takes care of putting Trieste back at plus 10. Only towards the end did Cinciarini and his companions reduce the gap by a few points, so the first half ended on 42-34.

Upon returning to the field, Brooks immediately brings his team above double figures, but Johnson doesn’t accept it and immediately restores the distance. Candussi then finds a triple, but Pollone and his teammates hold their ground, until Ferrero and Ruzzier take the lead for Giulia’s +17. Cinciarini is the last to give up and tries to keep Forlì alive with his plays, but Menalo makes it 61-43 with three remaining in the period. Unieuro’s reaction then passes through Radonjic and Cinciarini who with a partial of 5-0 brings them back to -9. The last quarter opens with Filloy’s triple which meant 67-53 for Trieste, but Cinciarini continued his personal challenge against the Trieste defense and kept Forlì attacked. The gap was then reduced to minus 9 thanks to Johnson and Magro. Forlì now believes it but Filloy takes the lead with six points in a row which means +15 for Trieste with four to go. The guests still try, with pride, until the end, but Deangeli and his teammates are now in a competitive trance and take home the victory, controlling the match without problems. It ends like this 85-68.

Writer by passion, born and raised in Trieste, close to the eastern border, he breathed the air of great basketball from an early age following the exploits of Meneghin, Gentile and Bodiroga. His passion for the ball continued, even far from home, moving from the field to the whistle, until arriving at BasketUniverso, a newspaper with which he began collaborating in March 2015. Overseas his love was, is and always it will be for just one unforgettable player: the “Black Mamba”.
