The initiative of the Messina Tourism Bureau starts today, with the patronage of the Metropolitan City of Messina and the support of the Sicilian Region, aimed at enhancing the fish products of the Messina area and the tradition linked to the culture of the sea, fishing and “seafood cuisine “.

Since 2019, “Non solo buddaci” is the event, promoted and organized by the undersigned Consortium, which aims to enhance the fish products of the City of Messina and the Strait, through information and communication interventions, with promotional activities aimed at improving knowledge of the fish species caught and farmed, of the intrinsic or material characteristics, such as for example the nutritional and organoleptic aspects and the extrinsic or immaterial ones regarding the cultural, identity, ecological, environmental and socio-economic sustainability aspects.

Artisanal fishing in the territory of the City of Messina has always represented a socio-economic and cultural tradition of great importance for the territory.

The typology of our two seas, the morphology of the seabed and a high biodiversity, allow the presence of incredible varieties of fish species including various species of blue fish, also called poor fish but in reality very rich in organoleptic and protein nutritional properties . But alongside the fishing tradition, there is also the gastronomic one, a characterizing element of Messina culture.

Also this year Non solo buddaci returns with a three-day event, workshops, tastings that will take place in various locations in the Messina area from 27 to 29 June 2024, followed by a promotional campaign, in the following months, for the gastronomic valorization of the local poor fish.

It starts tonight from 7pm, at the Enoteca of San Placido Calonerò, thanks to the partnership with the metropolitan city and its CRAL, with a delicious tasting of stockfish, preceded by some short introductory speeches entrusted to Filippo Grasso, Cristiana Irrera and Domenico Majolino.

The next two appointments will be tomorrow at the Circolo Motonautica (Casa Basse Paradiso) and Saturday at the Bakxos lido (Torre Faro).
