Douglas Luiz Soares de Paulo was born in Rio de Janeiro in May 1998 and, as a footballer, he trained in the youth teams of Vasco da Gama, a club with which he made his debut in the First Team in 2016. With the team from Rio de Janeiro he collected “only” 39 appearances: Douglas, in fact, quickly attracted the attention of the Old Continent. It was Manchester City that brought the 1998-born player to Europe, but it was at Girona, where he remained on loan for two seasons, that he played his first European matches.

In Spain he collected 46 appearances before moving, subsequently and permanently, to Aston Villa: it is here that Douglas Luiz established himself, over the years, in international football also conquering the Brazilian national team with which he debuted in November 2019.

In Birmingham, he is constantly evolving: from his importance to the team, to his maturation in all aspects of the game that allow him to be included in the list of the most interesting midfielders in the entire Premier League. With Aston Villa, he has made 204 appearances in all competitions, both national and international, with 22 goals and 24 assists.

In between there was also considerable satisfaction with the Brazilian selection at the latest Tokyo Olympics: a five-hoop event that Douglas Luiz played as a great protagonist and with which he won the gold medal in the Yokohama final won against Spain.
