A historic socialist reference, Piero Lo Nigro, had been proposed by the moderate table as a potential candidate for mayor. The final decision of the “guarantor” Nuccio Di Paola made the pendulum swing towards Di Stefano. Lo Nigro decided not to take the field directly. He will still support a progressive path. On Sunday morning, he will make a public appearance with the list built for the European elections, “United States of Europe”, which brings together the socialist party, Italia Viva (which instead is with the center-right of the parties in the local elections), +Europa, radicals, Lib Dems and “Italy is at the centre”. Lo Nigro himself, the candidate for the European elections Luca Ballatore and Bobo Craxi, another historic national exponent of the socialist party, will be at “Gboil” from 10am. “The initiative certainly has a development for the Europeans – says Lo Nigro – we want to present this “United States of Europe” project. Craxi will be there, who has always played an important role, also due to family tradition, in the dynamics of international politics. We will host the candidate from the socialist area at the next European elections.” The socialists see themselves in the “United States of Europe” project while on the local level Lo Nigro does not seem to hold a grudge. “Let’s say it’s not the centre-left I would have imagined but I will never vote for the right – he underlines – I like to be coherent. Was I not treated well? I think that in a journey, even in an internal competition, you have to take into account losing. However, I didn’t like the behavior of a political force that should have been third and arbiter of the challenge but which instead played dirty. I would have expected a different type of behavior from the Honorable Di Paola.”
