Floods in Emilia Romagna: Faenza, presentation of the survey on the state of health of the territory on 27 May

The presentation of the investigation “Flood – How it entered the life of each of us”, carried out by the diocesan Caritas for present the state of the territory one year after the flood. The initiative sponsored by the municipality of Faenza will be attended by Msgr. Mario Toso, bishop of Faenza-Modigliana, while Don Marco Pagniello, director of Italian Caritas, and Davide Agresti, municipal councilor for welfare, Europe and smart cities will speak. The survey was drawn up starting from an online questionnaire addressed to the diocesan community in recent weeks. 421 women (72%) and 164 men (28%) responded to the questionnaire, with one person choosing not to answer the question on gender, for a total of 586 people. People of all age groups participated in the survey, in particular 55% belong to the 46-65 age group. “Following the terrible events of May 2023, Caritas has been committed to the flooded families in a concrete way since the first days,” explains Don Emanuele Casadio, director of the diocesan Caritas. “Today – he adds – we continue our proximity action from psychological support to support for parish Caritas, from economic contributions to the distribution of furniture and household appliances, up to the survey which involved around 600 interviewees”. Caritas of Faenza-Modigliana, through the Operations Center set up in the parish of San Domenico until April 30th, coordinated and offered logistical support to the over 600 volunteers who arrived in Faenza from all over Italy to offer their help. 150 home cleaning and restoration interventions were carried out, while over 100 dehumidifiers, high-pressure washers, clothes and linens were distributed, together with 7,300 emergency food and home and personal hygiene kits and, in the last period, also furniture and furnishings resulting from of donations. A work supported by Caritas Ambrosiana, with the collaboration of Comunità Papa Giovanni XXIII, Agesci and Operazione Mato Grosso. Italian Caritas has also entered into an agreement with the BCC-Cooperative Credit Bank to expand the categories of people who can access the microcredit provided by the bank itself, including a greater number of families economically weakened by the floods, thanks to a loan of up to 5 thousand euros, to be repaid in a maximum of 5 years, with an interest rate of 3.75%.
