The 3rd edition of “Modulations – Timeless Music” is underway, a musical journey between France and Italy

Friday 31 May at 6.30 pm, at the Hall of Honor of the Municipality of Cuneo (via Roma 28), the concert “Tous les matins du monde” (free entry) inaugurates the third edition of “Modulations – Timeless Music”, the ancient music festival produced by Maestro Società Cooperativa di Cuneo and organized by Noau officina cultura. The inaugural program will continue on Saturday 1st June at 6.30pm at Palazzo Samone with the concert “Artemisia: di tenebra e di flame” (entrance 10 euros) by the Cleantha group. This year too, the festival will bring ancient music to the historic sites of the city of Cuneo with a rich offering designed for all age groups and distributed over three weekends from June to September. For further information and to discover the complete program of all events, you can consult the website www.modulazioni.net, the FB pages (www.facebook.com/modulazioni.net) and IG (www.instagram.com/modulazioni) or write to [email protected]. Tickets for paid entrances are available on the ticket.it portal. The festival takes place with the support of the Municipality of Cuneo, the General Directorate of Entertainment of the Ministry of Culture and the CRC Foundation and in collaboration with the GF Ghedini Cuneo Conservatory, the Cuneo Diocesan Works Foundation, the Cuneo San Sebastiano Diocesan Museum, the Rondò dei Talenti, Mets (Electronic Music & Sound Engineers) Cuneo.

“In its third edition, Modulations opens with a capital novel in the history of music of the last century. A text full of poetry, pain, desire that inspired a symbolic film, whose soundtrack surpasses the dialogue and the image becomes as profound as on the canvas – say the artistic directors and creators of the festival Alessandro Baudino And Paola Cialdella -. Time, transformation, the pictorial image, impermanence, reciprocity: the program of the third edition travels between Italy and France, outlining subtle connections along different eras, physical time cancels itself and allows historical and contemporary sounds to intersect, generations are mirrored and meet. Historic locations, public spaces to open up to the city, original creations intended for a plural audience and new collaborations embellish this year’s programme. In thanking the collaborators and those who contributed to the creation of this edition, we invite everyone to this exciting new journey.”

Friday 31 May the inaugural concert “Tous les matins du monde” will be performed by the group “The King’s Violets”, composed by Virginia Ghiringhelli (viola da gamba), Eleonora Ghiringhelli (viola da gamba), Angelo Lombardo (viola da gamba) with music by Sainte-Colombe and Marin Marais. The first part of the program features the great master Monsieur de Saint Colombe (ca. 1640-1700) who presents himself as outsider in the musical panorama of the second half of the seventeenth century. We have received little biographical evidence of him, but many evidence of the importance with which he influenced the development of his instrument both from an organological and technical-instrumental and didactic point of view. The second part is entirely dedicated to Marin Marais, the most famous pupil of Maître S.Colombe who, with the publication in 1686 of his five books of Pièces de viole, established himself in the Parisian violist world as an undisputed authority. Entrance is free.

Saturday 1st June Palazzo Samone will be the scene of the group’s “Artemisia: darkness and flame”. Cleantha, recently formed vocal ensemble with equal voices, composed of Elisa Franzetti (voice), Barbara Maiulli (voice), Giulia Beatini (voice), Paola Cialdella (voice) and Elisa La Marca (lute and theorbo). Artemisia Gentileschi is strongly part of the contemporary world. The intricate human story intersects with the transition to the new world, from Copernicus to Caravaggio to Galileo Galilei, with whom she has epistolary and personal exchanges. She is the ideal companion of other women artists, such as Francesca Caccini, protagonist of her own career, pioneer of female emancipation, such as Vittoria Aleotti, Barbara Strozzi, such as the Ladies of the Secret Concert in Ferrara, including Anna Guarini. The biographies are also intertwined in the drama – the violence against the very young Artemisia, Anna’s suicide – in her origins from families of artists and in her path to personal affirmation, access to study, and fame during her lifetime. Entrance 10 euros, ticket reservation on ticket.it.
