Hydrogen for boating, the Dba plant in Venice

Treviso-based Dba Pro will provide engineering services for the design of the first hydrogen distribution system for nautical use in Venice. The agreement was signed with NatPower H, controlled by the NatPower Group, a global developer of innovative infrastructures for the production, storage and refueling of green hydrogen for recreational boating.

The first hydrogen station will be installed by the end of summer 2024, which will be able to refuel zero-emission boats that transit the lagoon. The architectural concept of the infrastructure was conceived and designed by Zaha Hadid Architects and will include, among other things, the installation of the hydrogen system in an innovative structure printed with 3D technology.

Dba Group will be responsible for providing engineering services for the construction standard, fluid dynamic modeling and Fire Safety Engineering analysis. For the first installation in Venice, in Sant’Elena, all the services necessary for the realization of the work during the design and construction phase will also be provided.

«We are implementing various initiatives to support the country in its ecological transition path, as specified in our Industrial Plan to 2026, with the aim of promoting environmental sustainability through ecological modes of transport», explains Raffaele De Bettin, CEO of Dba Group, a company listed on the Euronext Growth Milan market of the Italian Stock Exchange. The agreement was received positively: yesterday the Dba Group stock closed trading at 2.87 euros (+3.24%). The group, based in Villorba, is among the main companies in Italy for technical consultancy, engineering, project management and ICT solutions. The company has already been involved in the planning of some “cold ironing” interventions at the port of Trieste.

The Venetian project is part of a program which sees Natpower H invest a total of 100 million euros over 6 years for the construction of 100 hydrogen refueling stations for yachting. «This new assignment in Venice confirms our role as a strategic partner alongside companies engaged like us in the decarbonization process» adds De Bettin «making our skills available in the various applications of new energy vectors for the overall improvement of the environment and of people’s quality of life”.

The Treviso company has long been involved in the development of hydrogen infrastructure. The exclusive collaboration agreement with H2C was signed a few days ago, aimed at the production and development of the use of “green” hydrogen. The group will provide technical and engineering consultancy to H2C, in order to develop green hydrogen production and distribution technologies, in order to supply drones used for the transport of goods.

Dba will also accompany H2C in its sustainable logistics project, which aims to design and build customized eco-sustainable integrated systems that include hydrogen production, storage and dispensing systems, powered by renewable sources, management and control systems and hydrogen forklifts.
