Controls at the Fanello market in Vittoria, mayor Aiello clarifies –

On the control activity for the traceability and wholesomeness of products within the fruit and vegetable market of the Fanello district, Mayor Aiello takes a position after the statements made by the President of the commission agents Giuseppe Zarba.

“Legality at the Market. The controls? Necessary! The position of those who reject them and consider them negative is absurd. The stickers on the packaging must be affixed before entering because they certify the correctness of the origin of the product and intercept widespread phenomena of dumping and entry of products from external, non-Italian areas.

The control activity is necessary and mandatory so that everything marketed within Fanello can be distributed in other markets with the guarantee of legality. We have always fought all those forms of illegal marketing which do not give any guarantee either to the final intermediaries or to consumers regarding the healthiness of the products. We cannot look the other way, claim the traceability of production and adopt behaviors on the other side that go in the opposite direction.”

According to Aiello, Vittoria and its market must set an example, starting with their farmers who rightly demand recognition of that added value which is based on respect for the rules linked to marketing.

Therefore the controls do not mean harassment, but rather guaranteeing compliance with the rules. The checks are part of compliance with the rules and this point cannot be overlooked, concludes the mayor Francesco Aiello.
