Apathetic and not too “warm” in the routine of city football, Pesaro turns to football when play-offs are in the air. In recent days, hanging out on social media, the usual “I was there”, “that time”, “back in the day” have been pouring in. And among these self-referentialisms there was also the memory of a playoff that was not a playoff or even a playout, also because these terms did not exist in 1980s football at the time. This is the ’83-’84 season, Promotion category. Then Bruno Cantone’s Vis dueled in the play-off with Monturanese. The neutral was not just any one: Ancona. Which was like saying that they weren’t playing on a neutral pitch because in the ‘Dorico’ corner the Ancona red and whites were cheering the footwear team. Many have remembered that play-off which ended 6-5 after penalties and which the whole city followed, reaching the old Dorico with every possible means imaginable. Even then Pesaro brought out his dormant (and lethargic) passion for football, even if it didn’t help. Even with a Vis rolled in Promotion, thousands invaded the hall of the Ancona stadium, not counting those who sat in the central stand. And it wasn’t obvious, given the category, even if Vis finished a resounding championship, made up of away games on fields in the hinterland and also in the hinterland, including Santa Veneranda. This playoff was also part of history. And that time too Pesaro woke up on the occasion that mattered.
