Ars Oratoria – Modern theater – Sound tracks

Friday 24 May 2024, at h. 8.00 pm, at the Don Bosco Theater in Via Roma in Caserta, the final event of three modules of Viva Schoolwhich featured the students of the Pietro Giannone High School of Caserta.

The project consists of six modules, all linked to different aspects of dramatic, musical and dance expression. After the greetings of the Mayor, Avv. Carlo Marinoand the Headmaster, Prof Marina Campanilethe group of students from the Liceo della Comunicazione will introduce the event.

The show, entitled “The Immortals” (᾽Αι ᾽Αθάνατοι in Greek), is composed of a first section edited by prof. Michele Casella, focused on the ars oratoria, also in its technical aspects. The expert, Dr. Daniela Quaranta, worked intensely with the group of students involved to propose an argumentative simulation on the “Antigone case”, seen only by the young protagonists of Sophocles’ tragedy of the same name. Antigone will be innocent or guilty from time to time in the words of Haemon, of the guard, of her sister Ismene, in a multi-voiced debate.

Professors Grazia Falco and Alessandra Sapone took care of the “Modern Theatre” and “Tracce sonore” groups respectively and, together with the experts Ilaria Delli Paoli, as regards contemporary dramaturgy, and the musician Paky De Maio, for the soundtrack , will give life to a single piece.

Ilaria Della Paoli, who is one of the souls of Teatro Civico 14, has reworked and rewritten the play by author Mac Donald Shermann, entitled “After Juliet”. The story starts from the most painful love that modern theater knows, that of Romeo and Juliet, but develops entirely on the dilemma of who survives Juliet, that is, her cousin Rosalina, a peer “the same but different”.

Ars Oratoria - Modern theater - Sound tracksLetters and monologues that will be interpreted by Giannone’s students want to whisper to the spectator of our time the futility of hatred, the importance of dialogue, the urgency of peace, the indispensability of love, in a continuous reflection of Shakespearean drama in the tragic ideal of classical Greece.

Antigone, in fact, proclaims that she was born for love and not for hate, just as Rosalina, in her multiple identities, renews her aspiration for love outside the cages of conventions and hypocrisy.

This one-act play will be accompanied by a soundtrack, which is an original creation of the students who followed the “Soundtracks” path. During the course, they were introduced to the history of music and subsequently developed skills that allowed them to create the musical commentary for “After Juliet”.

This synergy between the arts and groups therefore testifies to a school that knows how to reinvent itself and involve students as protagonists of their own education.
