the Mase blocks Eni Rewind

CROTONE – After the letter from the open committee ‘Poisons out. Crotone wants to live’ to the parliamentarians, the first to respond, with official documents, is Angelo Bonelli of the Green Alliance and the Left who this morning presented a question to the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security on the attempt of Eni Rewind, through the launch of a new services conference, to remove the constraint that obliges it to take the hazardous waste from industrial reclamation out of Calabria, to leave it in Crotone. The committee makes this known.

In view of the next services conference, Bonelli asks Gilberto Pichetto Fratin if “he does not deem it necessary to adopt acts within his competence so that Mase, in the services conference of 06/17/2024, opposes the request by Eni Rewind to proceed with the revocation of the commitment incumbent on it to dispose of the special hazardous industrial waste of Crotone outside the territory of the Calabria region and so that, after years of omission, the defined Plan is promptly implemented (Ministerial Decree no. 7 of 3 March 2020) and the reclamation and repair of environmental damage in the Sin” of Crotone.

The parliamentarian reminds the minister that on 12 March the Regional Council of Calabria approved the regional waste management plan, in paragraph 32.2 Exclusion from the field of application of localization criteria which states that “Without prejudice to the superordinate regulations, the provisions relating to the location criteria do not apply to the following cases (…) letter n) “landfills for safety purposes
permanent and waste treatment plants built in the area subject to reclamation and intended for
remediation operations of contaminated sites according to the procedures of Title V of Legislative Decree 152/2006,
without prejudice to the obligation to remove the treatment plants once the reclamation is completed”.

For Bonelli these are provisions that “could be useful to Eni Rewind in order to pursue and achieve, after years of omissive conduct – he reiterates – the revocation of the commitment to dispose of the said waste outside the territory of the Calabria region and to create new purpose landfills for tenorm with asbestos within the Sin.
