CARPI, SOLIERA, NOVI DI MODENA – Excess weight in childhood represents one of the main public health problems worldwide. In Italy, at the age of 8, 39% of children are overweight (including obesity) and the 17% are obese. If not adequately treated in childhood, obesity persists in 70-80% of cases into adulthood, with increased risk of disease cardiovascular, metabolic, tumor and psychological and psychiatric repercussions. According to various studies, sedentary lifestyle among young people is also increasing, also due to the increasingly extensive use of electronic devices, and sports practice is decreasing. In the area, for 17 years, there has been the Move Move Projectwhich expanded with the pilot project in the 2023/2024 school year Get moving Get moving Kids, specifically dedicated also to 4-year-old children attending nursery schools. “Move, move – comment the promoters – it is now so well known and considered valuable by schools that we can go so far as to say that it represents a sort of ‘brand’. Everyone wants it, everyone asks for it, and educators, kids and families are really excited about it. The strength of the project, we would like to strongly underline, is not only in its ability to propose recreational-motor activities through professional operators to thousands of children, managing to fill in the last 17 years what would otherwise represent a void, but also in the fact that it is an extremely flexible project, capable of adapting to the multiple needs that emerge with changes in the social structure or more simply in conditions. Over the years, in fact, we have introduced the section dedicated to children with disabilities, then aquatic activities, as well as having changed the range of ages involved. In short, everything, from the numbers to the enthusiasm of the participants, tells us that ‘Move Move’ is a project for which our territory can be truly proud, and which is ready to come of age, given that next school year we will celebrate its 18 years of existence”.
