Actuality

They seemed to have almost become extinct, but perhaps it was only the winter that had temporarily held them back. We are talking about them, the “legendary” illegal parkers. With the construction of the new car parks, these seem to have found new uses, new places in which to extort money. In fact, some citizens report to us individuals, alleged veteran illegal car parkers, who last weekend spent the entire afternoon directing traffic and asking for money inside the new “municipal” car park on the San Vito seafront, in front of the Passeggiata Consagra .

Unfortunately, illegal parking is a reality that, once again, we find ourselves having to deal with. In the new car park in Piazzale Quinci, after the installation of the payment system, the situation seems to have improved. We therefore ask ourselves whether the same system should be installed in the new car parks to try to mitigate the situation. We are referring to the new car parks on Lungomare San Vito in front of the Consagra promenade (see cover photo taken by us), Lungomare San Vito at the intersection with Via Gaspare Morello and Lungomare San Vito behind the amusement park.

We learn about the latter from the Executive determination – n. 1021 of 05/14/2024 that the cleaning and arrangement of the area will soon be carried out (click here to read the complete decision). Furthermore, we hope that checks by the police will be increased and that video surveillance will also be installed in the new parking lots, both to prevent the parkers from moving to neighboring areas and to avoid unpleasant episodes such as thefts inside of cars.

A few months ago, for example, we reported the thefts of car radios from some minicars also inside the Piazzale GB Quinci car park (click here to read it). Speaking of parking, we also reiterate that to improve the traffic situation, and the issue of illegal parking, some parking spaces (those adjacent to the cycle path) on the seafront should be eliminated in order to leave the sea side view free; however, this would imply the immediate establishment of a public transport service to allow citizens and tourists to reach the historic centre, and beyond, more easily.
