Gezziamoci celebrates 37 years with a rich summer program

The Basilicata jazz festival returns in July with events in Matera and throughout the region

Gezziamoci, the jazz festival of Basilicata, celebrates its 37th anniversary with a calendar full of events that will start on 19 July 2024. The event, which has been promoting jazz culture in the area for almost forty years, will propose fifteen events that will will take place between Matera and other Lucanian locations, combining music, nature and art.

The first evening will be held on July 19th in the garden of the Hotel del Campo in Matera with a concert by the Gianfranco Menzella Quartet. This will be followed on August 1st in San Severino Lucano by the performance of Ars Nova and, on August 2nd, by Miriam Fornari’s concert in the Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo in Montescaglioso.

The festival will continue on August 7th in Sasso di Castalda with the “Concerto Lucano” by the Conturband and the Mo’ Monk PT Quartet. The following day, still in Sasso di Castalda, the sound trekking with the Distilled group will begin, which will culminate with a concert on the new Piazzetta IJT

From 21 to 25 August, the festival will enter its most intense phase with events in the garden of the Hotel del Campo and at the Le Monacelle Foundation. Among the artists on the programme, the Raffele Fiengo Quartet, Avishai Darash Quartet, Pasquale Innarella and the Daniel Karlsson Trio. On August 25, the festival will close with a dawn concert in a secret location and a final evening performance with Panagiotis Andreu and his ensemble.

Gezziamoci joins Jazz Takes The Green, an initiative that promotes environmental sustainability and the protection of human rights. Two events dedicated to sustainability will be held on 22 and 23 August with the participation of Saverio Massaro and Angela Zaffignani.

The president of the Onyx Jazz Club Association, Luigi Esposito, underlined the importance of the festival in involving local communities and promoting jazz culture on a national and international level. Kevin Grieco, co-artistic director of the festival, highlighted how Gezziamoci continues to renew itself, offering concerts of a high artistic level and listening to the needs of local communities.
