The former Cantore Barracks opens to citizens

It will be a summer full of events for the former Cantore barracks in Piacenza. From mid-June until September the complex on Stradone Farnese, next to the former church of Sant’Agostino, is preparing to welcome a section of Piacenza Summer Cult and the twenty-first edition of the event dedicated to the big screen Cinema under the stars.

Collaboration with is decisive Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, owner of the property, and the commitment of Foundation of Piacenza and Vigevano which, in addition to supporting the events of the two exhibitions, was available to support the necessary technical adjustments, allowing it to host up to four hundred spectators.

A rich program of events

«With these initiatives we support a rich program of events which also has the advantage of enhancing a place that deserves to be rediscovered by the city – underlines the president of the Piacenza and Vigevano Foundation Roberto Reggi -. In recent years, with the former convent of Santa Chiara, we have already experienced how much this mix of culture and historic urban spaces is appreciated, which the people of Piacenza can somehow reappropriate in the name of art. For the Foundation it is a confirmation of its commitment to the Piacenza cultural summer, and I would like to thank Cassa Depositi e Prestiti for its availability, and for the collaboration of the entities active in the management of the space and in the organization of the shows”.

«After twenty years at the Arena Daturi – notes the president of Arci Piacenza Nicola Curtarelli –, “Cinema under the stars” changes location. Indeed, thanks to the availability of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti and the fundamental support of the Piacenza and Vigevano Foundation, this year’s open-air cinema season will be held at the former Cantore barracks, a truly evocative space which, as a symbol of the past, it now becomes a meeting and cultural sharing point for all the people of Piacenza. A sincere thank you also goes to the Municipality of Piacenza, for the always precious organizational support, and of course to the staff and volunteers of the Cinemaniaci association who, like every year, dedicate their time and energy to offer our community a review of quality film».

CINEMA UNDER THE STARS

The former Cantore will also become the open-air cinema of Piacenza. From the third week of June until the first week of September, it will host the 2024 edition of Cinema under the starsthe summer review curated by Arci Piacenza APS And Cinemaniaci APS Cultural Association which was traditionally held at the Daturi field in Viale Risorgimento (closed for renovation works).

From a content point of view, the 2024 edition will be held in the wake of the successful previous editions (last year recorded over five thousand spectators). The organizers are still finalizing the operational details. At the moment, the hypothesis is to open the screenings on June 24th and continue until September 7th.

What is certain is that this year’s programming will also feature, alongside titles known to the general public, arthouse films, screenings in the original language and historical films in a new restored version. Particular attention to social issues and documentaries will be confirmed and work is being done to maintain the formula of “special” evenings, which in addition to the screening include the presence of guests, thanks to the collaboration of Fice – Italian Federation of Arthouse Cinema.

As always, the shows will be held in the evening, with a single screening, between 9pm and 9.45pm (depending on the period). The entrance ticket will also remain unchanged: full price €6.50, reduced €5, and with the initiative Cinema Revolution €3.50.
