Outdoor education and, why not, twinning between schools to discover our beloved territory: the dune landscape and the visit of the students of the IC “Barone” of Baranello to Termoli.

Yesterday was a special day for the fifth classes A and B of the “Achille Pace” primary school in Termoli, who participated in an outdoor school activity organized by the teaching team. At 8:30 in the morning, the students headed towards the “Carriello” Sailing Club in Termoli, where they had the opportunity to live a magnificent experience on the coastal coast, focusing on the importance of the dune system.

Led by teachers Gaia Puglielli, Filomena Marino and Tiziana Minchillo and Maria Concetta Colombo, the children observed the flora present in the dunes, collecting natural finds that they will use to create a summary poster in class. After the observation, the pupils worked in small groups to reflect on the experience and consolidate the skills acquired, integrating various disciplines such as geography, technology, Italian and science.

The day then continued towards the village of Termoli, where the students met their peers from the third, fourth and fifth classes of the IC “Barone” of Baranello. This meeting is part of the “From Biferno to Foce” project, with which the students of Baranello chose Termoli as the final stop of their journey. In Termoli, the president of the Archeoclub Oscar De Lena welcomed the group and, with great enthusiasm, illustrated the legends, history and local traditions, guiding the visit of the village and its characteristic places.

Despite the hot sun, the sixty students followed the historical explanation with interest. After the visit to the village and a walk along the tourist port of Termoli, the group returned to the Sailing Club. Here, the students of Achille Pace said goodbye to their new friends to return to school, while the guest children continued the day with games on the beach and a swim in the sea (initially it was just their feet!).

All the children were delighted with the experience they had, and the teachers were enthusiastic about the results obtained. Special thanks go to the school directors, Prof. Agnese Di Blasio of the IC “Barone” of Baranello and Prof. Luana Occhionero of the IC “Achille Pace” of Termoli, who made this interesting twinning possible. This initiative has shown that it is not necessary to go far to find fascinating places rich in history: even in Molise there are wonderful places that deserve to be discovered and valorised. And we should be the first to do it!

A precious greeting to the Baranello teachers, Silvia Cordisco, Lucia Maio, Emilia Iacampo, Franca Furno, Daniela D’Angelo, Luciana Iannacone and Agnese Di Blasio and a sincere thank you for the wonderful day spent together.

“In every corner of the world, geographic identity not only defines the landscape, but also enriches the culture, traditions and soul of the communities that reside there, weaving a unique and precious fabric that deserves to be celebrated and preserved.”
Thanks to the teachers and students of Baranello for donating a wonderful ceramic from the Church of San Michele Arcangelo in Baranello to the friends of Termoli.
