MARTINSICURO One person was injured in an explosion that occurred in the evening, around 7.15 pm, inside a bungalow in the Duca Amedeo tourist village of Martinsicuro. The one who suffered the worst was a 43-year-old maintenance worker at the facility who was hit by a flame during a check on a gas cylinder.
Gas danger
A planned intervention given that a strong smell of gas came from the wooden house. In fact, he should have verified the cause. He entered an environment saturated with gas leaking perhaps from a faulty or malfunctioning cylinder. And at that point the man was struck by the flame and suffered several third-degree burns to his face, arms and chest. His condition is defined as serious but not such as to endanger his life, according to health sources. The man was transferred by 118 healthcare personnel, by helicopter, to the Mazzini hospital in Teramo. The alarm was immediate with the 118 operators who rescued the burn victim in an air ambulance. From Teramo, in all likelihood, he will be transferred to a specialized center in the next few hours.
The rescue
The firefighters of the Nereto detachment intervened on site to make the campsite safe: for the first weekend of June, in fact, there are already visitors, who have been temporarily removed outside the tourist area, waiting to be able to return with the all clear. It will now be up to the firefighters to establish what triggered the explosion in an environment saturated with gas. The firefighters then also made the cylinder safe: the bungalow was damaged. The Carabinieri soldiers were also on site and collected testimonies and clues to best reconstruct the story. The injured 43-year-old man was therefore promptly rescued thanks to the timely alarm of those who were in the structure at the time. The firefighters collaborated with the 118 health workers of Giulianova who brought first aid to the man from Martinsicuro. Transported by air ambulance to Teramo, he will be transferred in the next few hours to a facility specialized in the treatment of burn victims. The strong shock wave tore off the frames of the bungalow.
The investigations
The Martinsicuro carabinieri also intervened on site to take appropriate measures. The military personnel will also try to understand how the strong explosion originated. In fact, the man knew about the strong smell coming from the bungalow and was right there to check the cylinder. But there was no time because the explosion hit him and the flames reached him in a few moments.
