The National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC) Forum – says the professor Lorena Rebecchi director of the Department of Life Sciences – represents the first major scientific event of the National Center which aims to monitor, conserve, restore and enhance biodiversity. In the current context of climate change, habitat loss, local and global extinction of species, biodiversity represents an essential resource for humanity and for the health of ecosystems which are the basis for the regeneration of environmental resources. For Italy, among the Mediterranean countries richest in biodiversity and endemic species, the protection and enhancement of biodiversity must be considered a priority in a context of sustainable development and opportunities for young people. The Palermo Forum will allow 11 NBFC researchers, including 2 RTD-a) and 4 Unimore PhD students hired thanks to the National Center on Biodiversity, to present, with reports and posters, their research aimed at understanding, enhancing and conserving biodiversity animal and vegetal habitats of Italian terrestrial and freshwater habitats”.

Many young people present will propose concrete actions to achieve the objectives set by the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 which aims to protect at least 30% of terrestrial and marine areas and redevelop 30% of altered ecosystems.
