“Collaborative” meeting on the case of the murals. With some glimmers for the future

No step back on the “rejection” of the request for amnesty of the existing murals, technically impossible, but an openness to thinking about new murals on the wall in front of the Gadda Rosselli in the future.

This is one of the points that emerged frommeeting between the municipal administration (mayor Cassani, president of the Colombo city council, councilor for training activities Mazzetti and the manager of the urban planning sector, president of the Landscape Commission) and the delegation of students from the Gadda-Rosselli schoolaccompanied by the manager Pietro Bosello.

Meeting – a few hours after the young people’s demonstration – in a “collaborative climate”, says the institute’s note, even if the affair certainly created a certain amount of friction in the past days and hours.

As the notes of the “two parties” recognize, the meeting made it possible to clarify the reasons for the denial of the amnesty on the muralsby the Landscape and Superintendence Commission, which occurred following a request for “overall amnesty” of the entire perimeter of the Aloisianum institute.

As for the future, glimmers of a future solution have opened. The municipality’s note says this: «at the same time as the “less qualified” drawings were removed from the walls, before going to cover the drawings also created in part by the students of Gadda Rosselli, there will be possibility of presenting a project in the coming weeks which concerns all the surrounding walls”.

According to Gadda-Rosselli’s note, the Aloisianum (owner of the wall and over time favorable to artistic interventions) «has proven open to collaborating in a short time for a new project for the arrangement of the wall on Via de Albertis».

Here is the note from the municipal administration

This afternoon the mayor with the president of the city council, the councilor for training activities and the manager of the urban planning sector met the delegation of students from Gadda Rosselli, accompanied by the school manager.

The President of the Landscape Commission was also invited to the meeting and attended to describe the investigation process to the children.

The meeting served the students to understand the procedures and responsibilities of this decision taken by the landscape commission and the Superintendence.

The request for “amnesty” (which was denied by the two technical commissions) presented by the owners of the walls concerned all the writings and drawings present on the walls of the ecclesiastical property.
The students themselves highlighted how they themselves would have refused the request for an overall amnesty.

After explaining that the mayor, the council and the city council have no possibility of issuing or canceling documents that are not within their competence, the Cundari manager illustrated the technical impossibility of canceling the denial, by virtue of the landscape opinions received .

The president of the Paggiarin Landscape Commission, after having illustrated the regulatory framework, made an “opening” to the children by inviting them (where there is an agreement with the property) to present a new overall project for those walls, with the promise that the Landscape Commission would have re-evaluated the project net of the inadmissible pictorial decorations which also cover the bricks on the surrounding walls.

Therefore, at the same time as the removal of the “less qualified” drawings from the walls, before covering the drawings created in part by the students of Gadda Rosselli, there will be the possibility of presenting a project in the coming weeks that concerns all the surrounding walls.

Obviously it will then be the responsibility of the Landscape Commission and the Superintendency to evaluate these projects and express their opinion further.

Here, however, the institute notes it

A delegation of students represented by the members elected to the Institute Council, with the School Director, met the Mayor of Gallarate this afternoon for a discussion on the issue of the mural in front of our institute.
Also present were the Councilor for Educational Activities, the President of the City Council, the President of the Landscape Commission, the Manager of the Technical Office, who paid attention to listening to the reasons for the student protest and the request for revision of the decision made by Teaching Committee and Institute Council.

The technicians illustrated the administrative path that led to the need for the owner of the wall of Via de Albertis to restore the wall to its state prior to the pictorial interventions, as the heterogeneity of the same was not considered compliant with the landscape criteria of the area concerned , both by the Municipal Landscape Commission and by the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage.

The Mayor then specified that the Filo di Perle project saw the Municipality of Gallarate only as the initial promoter, without any operational responsibility.

The technicians pointed out that other better, more homogeneous solutions for arranging the wall can always be proposed by the owners (the Jesuits), also in collaboration with the school, which will obviously have to be evaluated by the relevant commissions, in compliance with the rules that allow respect for everyone’s right to enjoy a good landscape.

The delegation therefore expresses satisfaction for the attention shown by the Mayor and the Municipal Administration and for the collaborative climate in which the meeting took place and thanks the school community, the press and citizens for the solidarity shown.
Once the meeting was over, the Director of the Jesuit Administration was immediately contacted and was open to collaborating quickly on a new project to renovate the wall on Via de Albertis.
