Municipality of Latina – Porta Nord, water flow restored

The case of the water interruption operated by Acqualatina in one of the two condominiums of the real estate complex called Porta Nord, in the Pantanaccio district, was the subject of a meeting in the Municipality attended by the mayor Matilde Celentano, the General Director Agostino Marcheselli, the manager of the Heritage office Alessandra Pacifico with the official Roberto Tozzato, the administrator of the condominium, Isabella Riva, and the Commissioner of the Local Police Emilio Boscaro.

Acqualatina’s decision to suspend the supply of water in the two lots of the Porta Nord condominium, inhabited by 48 families, came after a long and so far fruitless tug of war between the residents, the condominium administrator and the Municipality of Latina, owner of the two properties intended for emergency housing, to try to recover through a repayment plan the impressive credit that the Acqualatina company boasts on the one hand (around 90 thousand euros) and on the other the Municipality of Latina itself (a little less than one hundred thousand euros). These sums are in turn part of the overall credit accumulated by the condominium administration which, as per the contract, is responsible for paying water, gas and air conditioning on behalf of the condominiums. Since these are homes built according to the most recent energy efficiency systems, the per capita condominium expense is around 500 euros per month, an amount compensated by the rent which in the Porta Nord condominium varies between 7 and 15 euros per month depending on the surface area of the apartments.

It is clear that the debt accumulated by condominiums has longstanding roots and a precedent
agreement for a repayment plan signed between the parties has remained a dead letter, a circumstance which now requires Acqualatina and also the Municipality to have to protect themselves so as not to damage the company or the institution.

Thanks to the availability of Acqualatina and the commitment made by the municipal administration to find a correct way out of the complicated situation that has arisen, this afternoon the water flow in the condominium was restored, to the relief of the residents and with all due respect to those who, albeit with difficulty, have always paid rent and condominium fees. The heaviest situation is in fact that suffered by non-defaulters.

For their part, the condominium owners have undertaken to immediately pay a per capita fee to the administrator so that he can in turn remit it to Acqualatina, a sign of the residents’ willingness to contribute to the recovery of the current debt situation.

Already from Monday the Municipality will activate a working table to identify the path to follow to restore the conditions of legality in the relationship between condominiums, local authority and Acqualatina. Where necessary, the administration has announced that it will not hesitate to give notice of eviction to those who are not available to support a financial repayment plan, capable of taking into account the real possibilities of each individual but also the rights of the service providers .
