CATANIA – Codacons has opened the “Class action Citroen” desk in Catania. The initiative is launched against the car manufacturer for the serious case of the recall campaign on C3 and DS3 cars linked to defects in the airbag inflation systems installed on the cars. More than 600,000 machines recalled worldwide. Thousands of motorists throughout Italy are receiving communications from Citroen in which the company asks them to suspend the use of the cars involved and to make appointments as soon as possible with the authorized workshops for the necessary repairs, considering that “the chemical substances contained in these inflators could deteriorate over time, exposing the driver and passenger to the risk of the airbag inflator breaking with excessive force in the event of an accident, which could cause serious injury or death,” explains Codacons.
“Interventions which, however, would require months of waiting due to the shortage of spare parts, as citizens who have contacted the body shops affiliated with Citroen are reporting. A situation that is creating enormous inconvenience for the owners of C3 and DS3 cars involved in the recall, forced to give up the use of their cars by incurring unjustified expenses for alternative means of transport, or to circulate with their cars in an unsafe condition, waiting of airbag repairs”. For these reasons, Codacons is preparing the papers for a class action that aims to obtain “compensation for the material and moral damages suffered by motorists and the replacement of the cars if spare parts are not available, as well as a sanction against the car manufacturer for the poor management of the recall campaign.”
