Led by the Oristano doctor Francesco Bussu, the University Clinic of Otolaryngology of Sassari was ranked 24th in the world among the institutes evaluated by the international Scimago centre. UNISS is third in Europe and first in Italy among the structures specialized in ear, nose and throat treatments.

The best centers in Italy send their patients with nasal vestibule cancer to Sassari. This is thanks to an innovative therapeutic approach, which combines the surgical phase with an aesthetic method, interventional radiotherapy. In recent years it has taken the place of traditional surgery, which most often led to amputation of the nose and complex reconstructive operations.

Francesco Bussu, 50 years old, is a full professor in the Department of Medicine, Surgery and Pharmacy at the University of Sassari. The family is originally from Ollolai, but the director of the University Clinic of Otolaryngology grew up in Oristano. He returned to Sardinia in 2017, after having held the role of first level medical director and researcher in the Otolaryngology Operational Unit of the “Gemelli” Polyclinic in Rome.
