Scenic in Vittoria, all the events this weekend

Every day is a discovery, every performance a surprise. The busy calendar of events of this 16th edition of “Scenica Festival” makes the city of Vittoria an evocative center of Sicilian cultural ferment and an engaging stage for the many guest artists. Contemporary circus and music, theater and dance, exhibitions and workshops: everything is ready for the second, unmissable, volcanic, second weekend of Scenica, the festival which colors the historic center of the city of Vittoria with a thousand emotions and which fascinates children and adults spectators.

Guest of Scenica with two national premieres is the award-winning Belgian contemporary circus and nouvelle magic company Doble Mandoble. Present with the show “Chapiteau Magique – The legend of Kulkatàn”, (show with reservations required) hosted in Piazza del Popolo on 17 and 18 May from 5.00 pm to 9.00 pm and on 19 May from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm, with repeats every 20 minutes for a maximum number of 18 spectators. In an artistic installation that enhances public space, transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary, audiences of all ages will experience the story of Professor Galvani who travels with his “attraction” in search of a chosen one who can free them both from their slavery .

National premiere also for the Ditta Polletti company – clownish enterprise, which at 8 pm on the 17th, at the Chiostro delle Grazie, debuts with “Caput”, (winning project of the Orango Announcement 2023 new productions category) Latin word meaning ‘chief ‘, to indicate both that this is their first production and the head understood as an anatomical part of the body, here used in balances, virtuosity and theatrical games (tromp’oil and slapstick). Also guest of Scenica is the actor and director Rosario Lisma, who on the 17th at 9.00 pm at the Teatro Vittoria Colonna brings “Giusto”, a surreal, funny and painful story which reflects a diversity in the contemporary world, but which is also an invitation to overcome the certainties that protect us and the limits that we have given ourselves. The protagonist is accompanied by the characters who populate his surreal world, evoked through the evocative illustrations of Gregorio Giannotta, an ironic and poetic artist, known for his fairy-tale creatures. The day on Friday will end in the Sala delle Capriate, which from 10.30 pm will welcome the evocative music of Ornella Cerniglia, an Italian pianist and composer who blends her music with the echoes of the Sicilian popular tradition in an uninterrupted flow of sound.

Lots of eco-sustainable fun on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th from 5pm to 9pm in Piazza del Popolo with the Riciclo company and their eco-carousel “Pedal Carousel”, on which eight little horses made with recycled material spin and are pushed by the carousel, also riding his bicycle. Much anticipation for the award-winning show “Hamenlin” by the Factory Transadriatica company, (winner of the prestigious 2023 Eolo Award as Best Show for Children and Teens and acclaimed at the National Festival of Children’s Theater Festeba), which at the Vittoria Colonna Theater on the 18th and 19th, at 5pm and 7.30pm, he will tell the mysterious story of the piper of Hamelin and the disappearance of 130 children. It will be an emotional journey between reality and fiction that will keep you in suspense until the last note. On Saturday 18th at Sala delle Capriate at 6pm and 8.30pm, “Mania-C” will debut at Scenica, the circus-dance show of the Nonni’s Company which won the SceniCall 2024 tender, obtaining a contribution for the production.

Also on Saturday at 6.30 pm, “Cow Love” by the Société Protectrice de Petites Idées company will be staged, a show of cynical circus and minimal plastic dance. The day will end with the music of Blind Butcher, who presents his latest work at Scenica: «Catch 22», 12 varied, playful, brutal, as well as unique, wonderful and danceable tracks, at Chiostro delle Grazie at 11pm. Sunday 19th at Sala delle Capriate at 5 and 6.30 pm the “Territorio” section returns with “Tela Viva”, a project by the Sur les pointes company which combines dance and art as one on the stage. At 8pm everyone will be in Piazza Giordano Bruno for Andrea Fidelio’s “On Air”, a show that blends language with beat box, juggling and humour, and in which the DJ will manipulate vinyl records, balls and hats and spectators at an exciting pace. The national preview of Piergiorgio Milano’s show entitled “Fortuna” (Company of San Paolo Foundation Award as part of the “ART~WAVES. For creativity, from idea to scene) call will close the second weekend of Scenica Festival, which at 9.30 pm in Piazza F. Ricca (San Giovanni). This show, part of the “Fittings” section, blends dance and circus, visual and sound landscapes, and will see two acrobats/dancers, accompanied by a musician/actor, move on a self-supporting structure, evoking the physicality and extreme sailing conditions on a boat.
