“For us, this event marks an important milestone in terms of solidarity, altruism and sharing – he explained Linda Catucci -. Solidarity and altruism have allowed us in recent years to promote many free projects for women in the workforce, while sharing has given us the strength and energy to carry out an increasingly larger and more important project that has a positive impact on quality. of the lives of many families. This year, in the Village, it will be possible, among other things, to carry out anti-HPV vaccines for eligible subjects, free of charge, thanks to the joint collaboration of the Bari Local Health Authority and the John Paul II Institute: a further commitment for the protection of the health of people who believe in our associative reality”.

“This year the Race for the Cure in Bari reaches its XVIII edition, an important anniversary which has consolidated roots in Puglia – declared Riccardo Masetti – and which has allowed Komen Italia to spread the culture of prevention even more deeply and implement concrete projects in the local area. With the help of institutions, partners, sports federations, the press and TV, we have generated a positive change in the way we deal with the disease and put the protection of women’s health at the centre.”

“The Race for the Cure – he observed Daniela Terrible – represents an extraordinary opportunity to promote prevention which, with its Health Village, represents a concrete example of a medical-diagnostic offer capable of conveying an exceptional message of solidarity of which we are proud. As every year, in fact, the Race renews the invitation to take care of one’s health and, thanks to the mobile units of the Prevention Caravan and the support of the healthcare workers involved in the initiative, it will be possible to benefit free of charge from specialist consultations and diagnostic tests dedicated to broad-spectrum prevention”.

With the funds raised in recent years, Susan G. Komen Italia was able to invest 26 million euros to finance over 1500 new research, prevention and support projects for women experiencing breast cancer. In Puglia the Komen committee has raised 120 thousand euros this year which will go to finance projects aimed at women in the workforce.

HPV VACCINES DURING THE EVENT

This year too, the Bari Cancer Institute confirms its presence at the city edition of the Race for the cure, the sports event dedicated to the prevention and treatment of breast cancer. As per tradition, the oncologist from Bari will guarantee free visits and tests today and tomorrow in Piazza Prefettura and will participate with a large team of doctors, nurses, patients and former patients in the amateur race on the Bari seafront scheduled for Sunday. “This year – explains the general director Alessandro Delle Donne – we are bringing an important innovation to the Race for the cure. We will be present with a mobile unit and, thanks to the collaboration with the Sisp staff, the Hygiene and Public Health Service of the ASL of Bari, we will proceed with the administration of the anti-Hpv (Papilloma Virus) vaccine for those who fall within the screening range: boys and girls aged 11 and over, women born since 1989 and men born since 1996”.
Anti-HPV vaccination prevents almost 90% of HPV-related cancers, including several urogenital and oropharyngeal cancers. «We participate with enthusiasm in this event – continues Delle Donne – because we deeply share its spirit: we must always take care of our health, not just when we go to hospital. Prevention can also be a celebration, a joyful moment of sharing.”
