Genoa. From Genoa to Faenza, 200 children’s books are ready to “depart” towards the Manfrediana municipal library, as a gesture of solidarity and closeness for the citizens of Emilia Romagna, affected by last year’s flood.

The initiative, called “Genoa-Faenza: books unite us”, was promoted by the urban library system of the Municipality of Genoa, in collaboration with Giunti al Punto – Librerie di Genova, to support the Manfrediana municipal library of Faenza starting from culture which, as the psychologist and writer Burrhus Skinner stated, “is what remains in the memory when everything has been forgotten”.

The Libraries of Genoa have decided to donate 200 books for children and teenagers as part of the annual Giunti 2023 campaign “Help us grow. Give us a book.” For several years, in fact, the Municipality of Genoa has been collaborating with Giunti to activate book collection campaigns that involve bookshop customers in the month of August each year and this project, of social and cultural relevance, has had important results compared to the increase in the bibliographic heritage of civic and school libraries.

«As the Book Capital – declares the mayor of Genoa – we wanted to provide a concrete contribution to the rebirth of the Romagna city, hoping that this donation can bring new life to the library, an essential point of reference for citizens. A small gesture that puts the book at the center as a very powerful recovery tool, paying particular attention to the universe of the little ones. Thus Genoa proves to be close to the community of Faenza, remaining available for further collaborations and support actions”.

The 200 books intended for Emilia Romagna were chosen based on the needs of young readers, with special attention to illustrations and the treatment of engaging stories, using simple language but full of new words to learn. The books are ready for shipment and will arrive in Faenza with the hope of the entire urban library system to bring new life to the Manfrediana Library, and thus contribute to its recovery.
