alcohol prohibited and tight controls

The mayor of Trento, Franco Laneselli, has issued a new ordinance which extends the control measures in the area of via Santa Maria Maddalena, providing for a ban on alcohol after 11pm and the obligation to have control service personnel in public places.

Starting from Friday 17 May, until next 16 June, the public places “Kafè Matrix”, “La Scaletta” and “Dejavù” will be subject to specific restrictions. During the evening hours, from 11pm to 7am, every day of the week, the sale or administration of alcoholic beverages of any kind will not be permitted. Furthermore, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, the owners of the premises will have to employ at least one control service employee to guarantee public safety.

The new ordinance extends the provisions previously adopted last April. According to what was reported by the neighborhood’s Anti-Degradation Committee, the restrictions have led to a limited improvement in the situation in the Santa Maria Maddalena area. Although public disturbances have reduced compared to the past, the need for further preventive actions still persists. Furthermore, noise levels increased significantly from 10pm to 2am, peaking around midnight, due to large numbers of people gathering. For these reasons, the decision was taken to extend the control measures, also extending them to the neighboring streets, in order to improve the quality of life in the entire area concerned.
