What happened

The inflation index stood at +0.8%, an improvement compared to +1.2% in March. This figure is also lower than the preliminary estimate of +0.9%.

According to theIstatthe slowdown is due to the decrease in the prices of unregulated energy goods and the deceleration in the prices of transport-related services, miscellaneous services, non-durable goods and processed and unprocessed foods.

However, despite the overall decline, some sectors saw price increases, including tobacco, recreational, cultural and personal care services, and regulated energy services.

Despite the drop in prices, consumer associations are not optimistic. Second Massimiliano Donapresident ofNational Consumers Union, “The drop in inflation, from +1.2 to +0.8, is just an optical illusion. Prices, in fact, continue to rise, even if slightly.”

Venice is in first place among the most expensive cities in Italy, with an average additional annual expense of 501 euros for a Venetian family. Followed by Siena, Parma and Rimini.

Because it is important

The decline in inflation, although apparently positive, is not viewed with optimism by consumer associations. The perception of a continuous increase in prices, despite the reported decrease, indicates a disconnect between the statistical data and the experience experienced by consumers.

This disconnect is particularly pronounced in cities like Venice, where the cost of living remains high. The situation highlights the complexity of the Italian economic landscape, where macroeconomic indicators do not always reflect the microeconomic realities on the ground.
