The mountain is told “from Forno to Pian dei Santi” becomes reality. On Sunday 19 May the project wanted by Ennio Fialdini, from Empoli with origins from Forno, and Elena Fruzzetti will be inaugurated, aimed at creating information panels along the path and near the ancient stone houses (dry stone walls), which are encountered along the route. The project was supported by the cultural associations Insieme and Eventi sul Frigido by Daniele Tarantino and Angela Maria Fruzzetti (in the photo) precisely for its value and originality, as well as by a local private individual. Pian dei Santi is a small settlement of forestry-pastoral origin, used by those who worked in the Apuan quarries and the surrounding mines. It enjoys a beautiful geographical position overlooking the Frigido valley and can be reached by climbing from the path that winds from Casania towards the mines and the onyx quarry or from Forno, starting from the Indugio bridge towards the Rossola area or from the paths which flank the slope behind the former Forno spinning mill. The appointment is at the oratory of Sant’Anna at 8.30 where the group will wind through the streets of the town telling the history of Forno, from the production of hats around the seventeenth century to then arrive at the Socialist House built the early years of the twentieth century. We will continue towards the Rossola area and then reach Pian dei Santi. A choir of girls from Florence will inaugurate the natural “arena” that Fialdini has specifically created by cleaning up the area. Along the way you will be able to read the history of that place, once inhabited, through the exposed panels which contain poems and stories referring to local traditions but above all to history, including the memory of the Nazi-fascist massacre of 13 June 1944. So, lunch packed bags and trekking clothing for a day to live and share, in contact with the environment. In short, an important project which also translates into prevention work in an area which is unfortunately abandoned.
