near tragedy in Venturina Il Tirreno

VENTURINA. The detachment, then the crash. First on parked cars, then on the ground. And it just so happened that no one was passing by at that moment, otherwise it would have been a tragedy.

The breakdown

Yesterday in the late afternoon in via Colombo – in Venturina Terme – a huge cornice collapsed from a building. Or rather, it was one of the sloping parts of the roof made of tiles and, probably, concrete that came down. The material crashed to the ground right in front of the building’s door, overwhelming some parked cars, which suffered major damage. Shattered glass and devastated bodywork, to be precise. Luckily no one was injured as there were no pedestrians on the pavement below at the time. Residents, however, temporarily poured into the street to understand what was happening and to call for help.

The safety

A team of firefighters from the Piombino detachment then intervened at the site of the collapse, reaching the roof with the ladder truck and slowly making the area safe, removing the rubble that remained unsafe at the top of the building. The road affected by the collapse, on the other hand, was temporarily closed to traffic to allow firefighters to work and to prevent anyone from passing under the building until it was made safe. Also because the collapse in question was notable and the quantity of material that ended up on the road, as can be seen from the photos, considerable. Once the firefighters have made the area safe, all that remains is to assess the damage.
