From San Zeno to the stadium, passing through the prison and the Arena: the Pope’s visit to Verona under the banner of “Justice and Peace”

The traffic plan for the visit has been defined, developed by the Municipality with the local police together with the prefecture and police headquarters. Participants in the events will have access to the network of ATV bus services which will operate on Saturdays (with the exclusion of special urban school services). A specific free shuttle bus service has also been set up to connect the places of the visit with the car parks set up by the local police for the reception of visitors.

Access and appointments

Piazza San Zeno is scheduled to open at 6.30 for the 5,400 children and young people up to eighth grade who will participate in the party accompanied by parents, teachers and catechists. At the same time the Basilica of San Zeno will also open for the 850 priests, religious men and women and nuns. From 8 am, in view of the Pope’s arrival, it will no longer be possible to enter either Piazza San Zeno or the Basilica.

Pope Francis arrives in Verona, the mobility plan has been defined: from parking to free buses, the things you need to know

The Arena gates are scheduled to open at 7am and the 12,500 participants will be able to enter no later than 9am. The event will begin at 8.45am and end at 12.30pm. From 11am it will be possible to access the Bentegodi stadium. The 31 thousand public participants will have three hours to enter since, for safety reasons, the gates are scheduled to close at 2 pm: no one will be able to enter the entrance after this time.

For all appointments, tickets are nominal and upon entry you may be asked to show an identification document. In each event there is a dedicated sector for disabled people with walking problems since, due to the shape of the venues, it will not be possible to access the steps of the arena and the Bentegodi stadium with wheelchairs. Likewise, strollers or prams for newborns will not be permitted.

Ticket cancellation or exchange procedures

Anyone who, due to some impediment, is no longer able to participate in the events can proceed to cancel the entry ticket, thus allowing others to take part. In the same way it is possible to change the name of the single ticket, transferring it to another person if the original holder is no longer able to participate. In both cases it is necessary to follow the procedure above https://visitapapa.chiesadiverona.it/.

Food and drinks can be brought into the various places, but not iron objects or other metallic materials. Bar services will also be available.

Parking available

There are three parking areas with free shuttle bus service: park C of the stadium with shuttle only to San Zeno, park P3 and P7 of the fair with shuttles to the stadium and the Arena.

BiciPark with Fiab Verona

To facilitate citizens who will cycle to the Stadium on Saturday 18 May to attend the Holy Mass celebrated by Pope Francis, a “BiciPark” will be made available inside the Palasport car park on the right side towards Via Sogare.

The area will be fenced and manned by Fiab Verona volunteers, to guarantee the safety of the many two-wheel users, who will be able to have their bicycles kept in a protected place. Opening hours will be from 11am to the end of the events in the late afternoon.
