“One more accident at work involved the operators of DEU 118 in Basilicata.
After the attack on a nurse a few days ago, this time it was a road accident which occurred late in the evening of Tuesday 14 May.
A violent impact involved an ambulance from the 118 service and a car.
The medical vehicle, which left from the territorial rescue station of Brienza, was reaching the emergency room of the San Carlo hospital in Potenza under code red with a patient on board in serious condition.
During the journey, for reasons still under investigation, the collision occurred between the ambulance and the car, the latter, according to an initial reconstruction of the incident, was apparently engaged in an unauthorized turn and collided with the ambulance.
They remained mainly in the violent impact the doctor and the driver of the car were bruised and injured and were both transported, with another ambulance arriving on site, to the “San Carlo” hospital for checks: the driver of the 118, who remained unharmed, thanks to his promptness he avoided the worst.
The nurse on board the ambulance involved in the accident was also uninjured.
The UILFPL wishes to underline that the 118 staff carries out a very delicate and risky job, since they must reach patients in need of care as quickly as possible and in disparate contexts.
However, despite the measures taken to guarantee safety, unfortunately, as can be seen, even serious accidents can occur and above all with an increasing trend in recent years.
It is imperative to introduce a fair legal and remunerative recognition at regional and company level.
The main causes of accidents involving emergency vehicles were distraction and failure to respect signs by other road users.
Those who work on the street, even if they do the same job as those who do it in a hospital facility, cannot fail to receive greater recognition.
Assaults, accidents and professional illnesses involving 118 personnel are decidedly higher than in other working contexts.
