Olbia: the office for information and management of guardianships, curators and support administrations opens

The PLUS service, “Telematic help desk for information, orientation and management of guardianships, guardianships and support administrations”, financed by the Region, was presented at the Community Hub of Poltu Cuadu, in Olbia. The tool, essential for raising awareness of an important institution of the Italian legal system as the support administrator, will be active twice a week at the Community Hub and once a week in the municipalities of Palau, Oschiri and Budoni.

«We have often verified that people need to be supported in their daily lives also from a financial point of view; there is no lack of means but management capacity – explains the councilor for social policies, Simonetta Lai – other times it occurs that the support administrator is a family member but his emotional burden towards those he must represent prevents him from managing the situation is better. I hope, therefore, that this service will be a concrete help in orientation, collaboration with other bodies and specialist services in the area is fundamental and necessary.”

The desk, structured with the presence of a lawyer and a social worker, will have a duration of at least 36 months and, as explained by the person responsible for the procedure, Francesca Soddu, will provide not only advice but also support regarding the promotion of courses, reporting to the Prosecutor’s Office if necessary, formulating requests and reporting from an accounting point of view. The objective will also be to find further figures, who, adequately trained and supported, can be an important point of reference for the community and who will be entered into a register of voluntary support administrators, made available to guardianship judges and administrations. A figure that does not require particular requirements but certainly knowledge and above all has responsibilities.

«It is essential that all citizens, local services, volunteers, associations, third sector bodies become aware of this legal institution which protects those who need it without taking away their dignity or replacing them as happened with other measures such as ‘ban – said the lawyer at the desk, Francesca Camoglio – each of us may need to have a legal representative in our lives and we must be aware of the rights and obligations. Our task will be to facilitate and raise awareness of the importance of this institute applicable in many contexts, together with that of giving technical advice.” Social worker Caudia Fadda, the other specialist at the desk, will also be coordinator. The awareness campaign will also take place via the Community Hub’s Web Radio.
