Environmental, economic and social sustainability, attention to fragilities but also to peripheral areas of the Foligno area, such as hamlets and neighborhoods and to cultural welfare. And again, particular attention to safety, defined as a true “emergency”, and to health services. These are the priorities outlined by Foligno 2030, a civic participation laboratory born in 2019 and which has a municipal councilor in the now expiring legislature: Mario Gammarota, who has decided to return to the field for the next electoral round. Together with him, within the Foligno 2030 list, 23 other candidates. Numbers in hand, 16 women and 8 men. “A list that boasts a large female component” they explain from the group but also that “best represents many areas of the city, different professionalisms, different areas of action and interest”.
“Ours – explained the president of Foligno 2030, Simone Bellucci – is a civic laboratory which has no internal parties and which has founding values which are those of the left and which are fully represented in the figure of Mauro (Masciotti, ed): hospitality towards the least fortunate, equality, unity and care for the city which has been lacking in these five years”. Going into the merits of the programmatic points, Bellucci recalled, among other things, the activation of “a strong campaign on hamlets and neighborhoods which unfortunately in the last five years – he underlined – have often been left aside by an administration that she seemed closed off and didn’t want to talk to the city.” The declared objective is to “look at the whole territory and forge strong ties with all parts of the city and with an economic and social role for all and services and listening to the needs of the whole city” avoiding that there are “serious citizens of B series”.
This concept is also recalled by Mario Gammarota. “We want to sweep away this method of city government. In these five years – he said – I have brought to the council various criticisms reported by citizens of the hamlets and neighborhoods: most of the problems have not been resolved – he said – and further ones have been added”. Not least the case of San Giovanni Profiamma. “After three years of requests and three weeks before the elections – he said – they are putting the bumps requested loudly but in different positions from those that the snake committee had requested: this is because even within the second divisions, there are citizens series a and others series b. This is not how a city is governed – he then reiterated -: we must loudly shout the slogan ‘Let’s unite Foligno’ and it will be, together with participation, the method that the progressive coalition led by Mauro Masciotti intends to implement”.
Also joining Foligno 2030 are the Umbrian Civics. “In Foligno we found a very broad civic world – commented Umberto Bonetti -, but in particular in Foligno 2030 where there is total adherence to the values that we represent, starting from sustainability which must not only be environmental, but also social and economic: the promotion of fair development, where there cannot be citizens belonging to different leagues. We believe a lot in this project, because we believe that civility is a new way of doing politics in the name of one’s community.”
Also present was mayoral candidate Mauro Masciotti who underlined the “freshness” of the progressive coalition’s civic lists “which – he declared – represent a movement that is growing, day after day, for our city. We are carrying out a project that goes beyond the very important and fundamental election of the new mayor of Foligno: I feel that positive energy that is leading us to think about a new way of doing politics, of thinking about a community of citizens. What we are asking of everyone and of ourselves is a new idea of commitment and sharing of a path that must absolutely break with ways that cannot belong to a city that must think of the common good of all. We are working a lot on the suburbs, which are not only the territorial ones but also the human ones, which are missing from many points of view”.
