A demonstration is planned this afternoon from 4.30 pm at the Pratone dellLa Sapienza University of Rome on the occasion of the arrival of the head of state at the Roman university Sergio Mattarella for the XI edition of Graduate Day. The students of the collectives, who have been in the university city with tents for days, also sent him a letter in which, among other things, they invite him to the garrison.
“We are young citizens – we read in a passage of the letter – for eight months in mobilization and for eleven days in permanent garrison within our University. During this long journey we have fought against genocide in Palestine and we asked ourselves about the complicity of our Universities in the massacre that continues to worsen in recent days”. “From the beginning of the mobilization, like our comrades from other Italian and world universities, we asked the rectors for a space for dialogue and to take measures on the links that our universities have with the war industry and with the Israeli universities deployed on the front line in supporting operations in Palestine”, the letter continues. “The only answers we got – the students write – were silences, escapes and truncheons in an indiscriminate manner: a rubber wall that is in contradiction with the critical approach which is the necessary condition for the freedom of research”.
