The SaviOrchestra of Molfetta wins the national Seamphony competition


MOLFETTA – The “SaviOrchestra” of the “Scardigno-Savio” Comprehensive Institute of Molfetta participated in the national competition Seamphony, the ship of Music, reserved for the best musical youth orchestras in Italy. On May 11th, on board the “Roma” ship of the “Grimaldi Lines”, the orchestra sailed the Mediterranean towards Barcelona.
On May 12, in front of a commission made up of musicians of clear fame, including Maestro Simone Genuini, director of the youth orchestra of Santa Cecilia in Rome, and maestro Piero d’Egidio, director of the Pergolesi conservatory of Fermo, as well 500 students, coming from all over Italy (Lucca, Naples, Latina, Pescara, Bisceglie, Gaeta, Molfetta), in orchestral formation, took turns performing and competing for the coveted prize.
In particular, the SaviOrchestra, made up of 70 students from the “San D. Savio” Secondary School of Molfetta, attempted a repertoire of particularly challenging classical pieces, even for professional orchestras, such as: Beethoven (Fifth Sinfonia vs Mambo n. 5), “Smetana”, La Moldava, Puccini (collection of the most famous areas of Italian bel canto). At the end of the performance, even before the outcome of the results, the SaviOrchestra immediately received a very long applause from the audience and the commission, as well as numerous attestations of professional esteem for the level of the performance, and admiration for the strong emotions aroused during listening.
While waiting for the final verdict, the participating schools enriched the experience with a guided tour of Barcelona, ​​passing through Gaudi’s modernism, strolling through the Gothic quarter and the Rambla, to reach the enchanted rooms of the “Palau de la Musica”, splendid example of Catalan liberty and UNESCO world heritage site.
On May 14th, having finally reached the final verdict, with everyone’s immense joy and satisfaction, the SaviOrchestra was proclaimed the absolute winner of the competition with a score of 100/100, obtaining the first overall prize for best performance, in addition to the special jury prize for the best orchestral transcription, and the special prize for the best violin class.
It can be well confirmed that the SaviOrchestra represents the flagship of the city of Molfetta and of the entire Puglia. Dutiful and heartfelt thanks are due to the Headmaster Prof. Nicoletta Paparella and to the precious teachers: Carabellese Daniela, Facchini Luigi, Giove Rosanna, Nesta Nicola, Pesole Vito, Sarro Tommaso, Squeo Rita, Turturro Pasquale, together with the wonderful students, very good musicians.
