LIVORNO – Livorno remembers Don Fiordaliso, ‘Le Sughere’ prison chaplain who passed away two years ago at the age of 56.
Don Francesco Fiordaliso, for 18 years a pastoral point of reference in Castiglioncello, province of Livorno, was chaplain of the Le Sughere prison.
A crowd of people wanted to pay their last respects to Don Francesco Fiordaliso on May 30, 2022, in a packed Livorno cathedral, with the funeral ceremony concelebrated by the bishop Monsignor Simone Giusti.

Organized by Francesco Fiordaliso Committeepriest, fromAblondi Association and fromFriends of Quilici Association and got the patronage of the Diocese of Livorno and the Municipality of Livorno. The initiative is supported by Caritas Foundation of Livorno and the reality of national and local Catholic-inspired associations.
Don Fiordaliso, a priest from Livorno who received presbyteral ordination from Bishop Alberto Ablondi, is remembered for vocation for the world of imprisonment and reconciliation and the continuity with Don Giovanni Battista Quilici, also dear to the Livorno church and the city.
“The topic covered – explain the organizers – is highly topical and will offer us food for thought on the need to rebuild the social pact between offender, victim and society, broken as a result of the commission of a crime”.
The comparison is inspired by the work of the clinical criminologist Emanuele Esposito ‘Conflict and society (Terebinto editions) and will see the participation of Esposito himself, of Giovanna Cuzzola, legal pedagogical officer of the Le Sughere prison in Livorno and Alberto di Martino, professor of criminal law at the Sant’Anna high school and former guarantor of the prisoners in Pisa.
