The operation arose following a specific risk analysis carried out by financiers on shipments arriving by courier in the Lucanian capital. In this case, the arriving packages contained fictitious personal data and telephone contacts, making it difficult to identify both the sender and the final recipient. After having identified the two packages and verified their contents, the soldiers of the GICO of Potenza, authorized by the local Public Prosecutor’s Office, delayed the seizure of the narcotic, making it arrive regularly at the collection point, established at a commercial premises located in the area. industrialist of the Lucanian capital, setting up a surveillance service for its plainclothes soldiers. In the late morning, Orefice, as explained by the investigators, showed up at the stop point, taking the two packages containing the narcotic, therefore, in the act of committing the crime, he was immediately arrested and taken to the local prison. A total of 6 kilos of marijuana and two cellular devices were seized. If placed on the market, the narcotic would have yielded an illicit profit of no less than 30,000 euros. The gravity of the circumstantial framework built allowed the investigating judge to validate the precautionary measure in place, ordering that the arrested person remain in prison, without prejudice to the presumption of innocence until the final stage of trial. The intervention in question, as recalled by the District Prosecutor of the Republic at the Court of Potenza, follows a similar activity carried out, again by the Guardia di Finanza, last March which led to the identification and seizure of 5 parcels coming from Spain containing hashish and tea-based food products for approximately 14 kg: «This underlines the particular attention dedicated by the police forces and the judiciary to the prevention and fight against illicit trafficking of narcotic and psychotropic substances and, more generally , to the control of the territory”.
