FANO. A global signature.

The Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe triumphs at the finish line in Fano, world champion in 2020 in Imola and in 2021 in Flanders who, in his first participation in the Giro d’Italia, finally manages to leave his “brand” on the race, after having already gone on the run several times in recent days.

The transalpine, who in his career has already worn the yellow jersey at the Tour de France for fourteen days in a row in 2019 (where, among other things, he won the polka-dot jersey in 2018) and, in addition to the two world titles, in his career he also triumphed at Milan – Sanremo and, three times, to Walloon Arrowwent on the attack in the first kilometres.

After a day spent on the run, the French champion also abandons the group of leaders – which also included the villager Matteo Trentin – and broke away together with the very generous Mantuan Mirco Masterswhich Alaphilippe himself publicly praised after arriving.

On the last climb, the very hard Monte Giove wall, with average gradients of 12% and peaks of 20%, Alaphilippe places the decisive sprint, with Maestri trying but failing to respond. The Frenchman goes away and is then perfect at drawing the downhill trajectories and managing the forces at the end.

He triumphs in Fano, behind him arrive, about thirty seconds behind, Narvaez and Hermansthen gradually all the other counterattackers, including Trentin.

Day of absolute tranquility for the pink jersey group, with some “scattering” in a flat stretch very exposed to the wind, but without any consequences for Pogacar and the other men in the rankings.

Tomorrow, Friday 17 May, an absolutely flat stage dedicated to sprinters: the Giro will start from Riccione and it will come to Hundred After 179 kilometers without any roughness. Jonathan Milan he is, obviously, the great favorite of the stage which will take place between Romagna and Emilia.
