L’overtourism it is an increasingly serious problem, even in Italy: there are tourist destinations which, especially in particular seasons of the year, are overrun by visitors. And all this causes numerous problems, from pollution to the excessive exploitation of natural resources, not to mention obviously the discomfort for those who live there. What is thetourism impact on the main Italian destinations? A new experimental investigation by Demoskopika reveals this to us.

L’Overall Tourist Overcrowding Index (ICST) takes into account 5 indicators: tourist density, accommodation density, tourist intensity, gross use and the share of urban waste attributable to the tourism sector. “Overtourism not only threatens the sustainability of our most loved destinations, but also risks compromising the quality of experience for visitors and the quality of life for residents” – he said Raffaele Riopresident of Demoskopika.
